Roger Federer beat Andy Roddick to win 2009 Wimbledon , by Peter Z

It is one of the longest mens single finals in the Wimbledon history, and it is also one of the most nerve wrecking Wimbledon finals as it happens. The match lasted for almost 4 hours and 30 minutes. The score was 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6 and 16-14. Everyone is a winner. Well, may be except Andy Roddick.

In front of a full stadium of tennis fans, movies stars and tennis legends, both players, Roger Federer and Andy Roddick played extremely well. Both player hits tons of service Aces and proves that they are both excellent service machines in the history of tennis as many service Aces and unreturnable serves are created and flying everywhere on the court. Today, Andy Roddick shows to the crowd that he can beat Federer, almost. He display a different Roddick today. He stays very calm throughout the match. He played everything well and did not give any service break to Roger in the first four sets. He hits winners everywhere, serve tons of aces and wins a number of points on the net. He stays with Roger the whole match and did not give much chances to his opponents. He has his chances to win the match. However, Roger Federer emerges to be the final champion.

Roger Federer has created the history of tennis. After winning the Wimbledon today, he now has 15 Grand Slam titles and is the King of the Tennis History. He has surpassed Sampras who holds 14 Grand Slam titles. He is only 27 years old and he can win a few more in the coming years.

Today, he shows to the crowd that he is a true champion in the sports of tennis. He stays focus and calm in the whole match. He makes winners from the base line and on the net. He serves extremely well today, even better than his opponent Andy Roddick. He moves beautifully on the court. In the final set of the match, Roger never really give any chance to Andy. He holds all his serves almost so easily and looks for openings from his opponent. The final moment come at game 29, when the score board is 15-14, Andy Roddick hits two loose forehands from the baseline and hands the match to Roger.

On the first set, both players hits exceptional well and hold their serve until at 5-5, Roddick provides a sign of chance to Roger. There are four break points, Roddick saves all of them and holds his serve to make it 6-5. Then Roger lose his service game and the set by hitting a down the line shot out wide. During this service game, Roger has requested two challenges and lose both of them.

On the Second Set, Roger and Andy are more cautious. Both of them hits a lot of service aces and hold their service game quite easily. The second set has to depend on the tie-breaker. At one point, it seems Andy Roddick can win the set as he was up 6-2 in the tie-breaker. However, Roger magically wins the next few points and close the set by 8-6. Andy Roddick is frustrated to lose the second set but he knows he must stay focus, otherwise he can lose the match easily.

Both players hold their service games on the third set and again the set has to be decided on the tie-break. There is a moment on the third set, at 3-2, when Roger sees a break point, Andy quickly serves his way out of trouble. Roger wins the tie-break at 7-5 and win the third set.

On the fourth set, when everybody thinks Roger is going to take the set and the match, Andy Roddick fights back. He earns a break point on the fourth game, where he hit a down the line passing shot, and Roger jump and still can not reach for it. That is the only break point and Andy hold on to win the set.

Now both players win two sets and the match comes to the final set where there is no tie-breaker. Both players hold their serves and do not give any opening to the other. It goes to 6-6, then 10-10, and 12-12. At some points when people think the match could go on forever, Roger fought to get a deuce on the 30th game. Roddick then hits two loose forehand that sails long from the baseline and hands the match to Roger.
